This WPA-era inspired poster of the Jorgine Boomer house in Phoenix, Arizona was commissioned by the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation for the 2020 Spoke Art Exhibition "Frank Lloyd Wright: Timeless". You may purchase the limited edition giclee fine art print here.
Wright's plans for the Boomer House are constructed entirely on a triangular grid. I used a similar triangle grid to create ocotillo plants in the style of Wright's graphic artist Gene Masselink, who was a pioneer in geometric abstraction in America.
“The desert abhors the straight, hard line."
FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT
The desert masonry in the concrete walls and the clouds in the sky also follow a triangular grid. Subtle texturing and coarse contours throughout create the broken, dotted lines that Wright loved.
If you're picking up on a Star Wars vibe from the multiple suns, you would be very perceptive! The reference to Alta Vista is intended to make this 1950s era home look like it is situated on one of the Planets of the Outer Rim, like Tatooine. Just one of the perks of artistic license used in this pop art show!
The font was custom designed for the first poster I designed for this series in 2019, Experience Fellowship.
